Chinese Lanterns: Ring in the Chinese New Year by designing a Chinese lantern. As we celebrate the year of the Dragon, learn some Chinese symbols to decorate your lantern.

All Month Long - Good for You: Healthy Fun on the Run Feature Exhibit
This exhibit tells the story of Ginger, a potato chip eating, soda guzzling, couch potato who loves to watch TV. Follow Ginger and her dog, George, as they enjoy an adventure that leads to a world of healthy foods and active play.
Now - Sunday, January 29th – Do You See What “Eye” See?
Learn about the human eye in honor of National Eye Care Month. Learn how the eye works and test your eyes with some optical illusions. The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.
Tuesday, January 31st - Say Cheese!

Valentine’s Day Cards: Show your loved ones how much you care about them by making lovely Valentine’s Day cards.
Carnival Masks: Carnival is a festival celebrated in many parts of the world. The biggest Carnival celebrations are held in Venice, Italy (Carnevale di Venezia), and also in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Rio Carnaval.) Make a mask or a headdress while learning about this festival!

Thursday, February 2nd - Groundhog Day
Join us underground in celebration of Groundhog Day! Learn the mathematical formula you can use to measure using shadows, create your own shadow puppet, enjoy Groundhog Day story time, and make your own shadows in our famous Frozen Shadows exhibit! Programs will be held in our downstairs area and announced periodically throughout the day.

Free admission for boy scouts that visit the museum in uniform.
Friday, February 10th, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm - Valentine’s Day Workshop
Profess your love with a color changing carnation experiment, try out the conversation heart sink or float challenge, learn about the human heart and make your own plasma soup from holiday candies. A healthy snack will be included as well. Cost $12 for members, $15 for non-members. Ages 5-10. Payment is required with registration by Friday, January 27th. Friday, February 10th - Sunday, February 19th - Valentine’s Science
When goldenrod paper meets a basic substance it turns bright red... so, why wouldn’t it make the perfect Valentine’s Day experiment? Just add a secret Valentine’s Day message to this acid/base experiment and you will end up with the most amazing scientific Valentines you’ve ever seen! The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.
February 12th - Good for You: Healthy Fun on the Run Feature Exhibit Closes
This is the last day to see the Good for You: Healthy Fun on the Run Exhibit before it moves to a new museum.
February 21st - Museum Mardi Gras!
Join us for a musical and cultural celebration of Mardi Gras! Experience Mardi Gras music and dancing on stage at our Theater on Main Exhibit, create Mardi Gras masks and headdresses in the art studio, and join us for Mardi Gras story time periodically throughout the day!
Tuesday, February 21st - Wednesday, February 29th - Reverse Engineering
Do you like to take things apart and put them back together? If so, join us in the Eastman Discovery Lab this week in honor of National Engineering week. Test your reverse engineering skills on lots of items adults would never let you take apart. There will be computers, phones, keyboards, and more! The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day. Visit the front desk for more details. (***Please note this program may contain small parts not suitable for children under the age of 3.)
Wednesday, February 22nd, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm - Imagineer It! Workshop
Celebrate National Engineering Week with a workshop that will test your craftsmanship, skill, and ingenuity. Launch you own cotton ball catapult, help create a giant geodesic dome, and invent your own aircraft to send flying in our famous wind tubes. A healthy snack will be included as well. Cost $12 for members, $15 for non-members. Ages 8-13. Payment is required with registration by Wednesday, February 15th. Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by making creations straight from the pages of his books such as
an oobleck, the infamous non-Newtonian fluid from Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Let Horton Hears a Who serve as inspiration while using microscopes to analyze even the smallest matter. Follow advice from the Lorax and build your very own clean-up machine from recycled materials. And don’t forget to create your own striped hat from Cat in the Hat. A healthy snack will be included as well. Cost $12 for members, $15 for non-members. Ages 5-10. Payment is required with registration by Friday, February 17th. Friday, March 2nd - Read Across America Day
Join us for story time in honor of Read Across America Day. We will be sharing some of our favorite Dr. Seuss stories by announcement periodically throughout the day. Also, the first 50 attendees will receive a free Dr. Seuss bookmark!
Saturday, March 3rd - Dino Revolution Exhibit Opens
Uncover the facts and fossils about dinosaurs in Dinosaur Revolution as you LIVE LARGE in reptilian role-play activities, undertake three Mesozoic Missions spanning 150 million years and mimic dinosaur behavior. Become a junior paleontologist and find evidence of your dinosaur doings; learn why dinosaurs are one of the most successful survivors in earth’s history; and unearth a shocking discovery: dinosaurs may not be extinct!
Saturday, March 3rd, 4:00 pm - CASA “March Magic” Show
CASA of Northeast Tennessee will hold a 2-hour Magic Show at Hands On! Tickets can be purchased online at www.casanetn.org or at Hands On! and will be available on the day of the show. Ticket Price: $5 for adults and $5 for children. Children under the Age of 2 get in free. Come early and show your ticket for a discount admission to Hands On!
Saturday, March 3rd - Sunday, March 18th - Can You Hear Me Now?
Discover some of the smallest bones in our bodies – the ones in our ear! Celebrate Alexander Graham Bell’s birthday by learning about sound and how Mr. Bell used sound in many of his inventions. Play our palm pipes, listen to our singing crystal water glasses, and even try out our Boomwhackers! The Eastman Discovery Lab will be open by announcement periodically throughout each day.
