Kids Like You & Me to Open at Hands On!
March 7 - July 7, 2009

Hands On! Museum will open a new 5,000 square foot exhibit, Kids Like You & Me, March 7th. Kids Like You & Me will explore how kids of all abilities are able to do many of the same things. Visitors can select a disability as they enter the exhibit to experience a "day in the life" or just explore the exhibit from different points of view.

Kids Like You & Me, on loan from Creative Discovery Museum in Chattanooga, offers children and their families the chance to experience a day in the like of a child with a disability. The exhibit features interactive situations from the community, school, and home, including a classroom, playground, bedroom, kitchen, and hospital nursery. Children can play wheelchair basketball, try out the climbing wall, master a computer without using their hands, order a favorite meal without speaking, and many other everyday activities that have been adapted for children with disabilities.

Visitors will learn about valuable life lessons including diversity, acceptance, and respect for all people as well as assistive technology that aids people of all disabilities.

This exhibit is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust, Mountain States Health Alliance, with media partners WJHL NewsChannel 11 and the Bristol Herald Courier.
